RACE REPORT BY WOBBLY WHEEL'S Hi Dave,
How are things ?
Hey, before and after I was flying with the Roulettes at the Airshow Day at Albion Park I got a chance to check out the BMX at Southlake track today.
After practice was over, I was very moved by the BMX Community observing a minute’s silence for the victims and families of the tragic bushfires in Victoria in recent weeks. It was a beautiful moment that moved seamlessly into a stunning rendition of our National Anthem, to everyone’s surprise, by one of our favourite racers, Courtney Randell. The cheers that followed exemplified the spirit of our family sport.
Well, over to the racing ! How good were our riders today – putting in some great performances and also winning the B Relay race.
Our newest riders, Sean and Trent showed that they are champions of the future as they showed their talents in their first big race meeting since they joined the Club. It’s a little bit different from gate starts at Castle Hill to stepping up into the “Big Time” at a major event !
We’ve got talent bursting at the seams in our Club ! Look at the performances of Zane Davis, Aston Wypich-Coles, Finley Moutter, Connor Ginger, Jarrod Davis, Jordan Brown, Blake Kable, Joel Randell, James Whatman and “Mighty Mouse” Andrew House in the junior boys races ! All the kids pushed hard till the end of the races putting into practice all they skills they learn at our track.
Stepping up into the older boys saw Ethan “Banjo” Hadley and Rhyss Kable mixing it with the best riders from the Southern Region.
Bradley Belfield, Adam House & Josh Chamberlain battled hard all day in their classes and showed that they’ll only get better as the series progresses.
Courtney & Jade held the flag high for our girl riders and we can’t wait for Claire, Page and Tahlia (and Linda & Annie & Lisa) to join the ranks of our riders at the big meets to show that the girls can do it just as well (better!) as the boys.
Alex, Daniel & Mitchell rode some great races in their 15 Boys age group and then Mitch & Dan doubled up in the “A” Pro class where Daniel made the final amongst some of the State’s top riders – well done !
Lawrence Belfield rode well in his class and helped out in the relay race wearing Dave’s jersey – that the fastest that Dave’s shirt has ever gone !
What can I say about the old blokes – the Dads – they should know better ! Rueben “Rubberman” Coles was so excited at being in second in his final that he overcooked it into the 2nd corner and bit the dust. The next mixed classes saw Castle Hill riders swamping the field with Grant, Chambo, Bill, Simon, Todd & “Red Nuts” Barry showing they’re no “Couch Potatoes” when it comes to sport !
Over to the 24” Cruisers which saw Andrew & Adam House having a big go ! Whilst in the seniors we saw Selwyn, Rohan & Bruce clean up and then Dave get cleaned up.
Thanks too, to our mums and dads that helped out with their kids and to those that did official duties during the day. What would we do without them !
I was pretty busy doing the acrobatic stuff with the planes, so I hope I saw and that I mentioned all the riders here in this race report but wow, did I see some awesome racing from our riders. I look forward to seeing you all at Castle Hill for the next race meeting of the Regional series in March.

New Race Report as of 10.11.08
Hi everybody, Wobbly Wheels asked me to pass on his thoughts from the Open race meeting at Manning Valley Club’s track at Taree on Sunday 2nd of November.
Well, firstly a great rap for the families that put on a great track and event for us all !
The track was well prepared for racing and the weather held off to provide a nice comfortable atmosphere.
Jarrod Davis rode his first event as an 8 year old rider (Happy birthday Jarrod) and learnt that you can’t go wide and give the more experienced kids any chance whatsoever. After getting some cornering raceline advice from experts like Dave (Ha Ha Ha) and Simon he stayed in tight into the first corner and blitzed for a well deserved top 3 placing ! Unfortunately he couldn’t find that line again and battled hard to keep up with the leaders in the next few races. But he showed plenty of promise and will be one of the club’s future stars.
Bradley Belfield threatened to jump the first double, but just couldn’t pull it off in the race events and pushed hard all day. He borrowed one of his Dad’s 24” bikes and chased his brother Lawrence in the Cruiser class as well. (Dad is taking a well earned rest due to a facelift and was champing at the bit to get out on the track – see you back out there soon Simon !)
Lawrence Belfield led the pack during his races but tired from riding two classes, so needs to work on his fitness and give up the girls and the partying to stay up front !
Mitchell Solomons (14 boys) loved the track and finished a solid 3rd over the day – his prizemoney helping to fund the replacement of the shredded tyre he and Dad experienced on the way up on Saturday.
His Dad, Dave Solomons (45-49 class) stayed upright on the day and had a ball mixing it with both the older (50+) and younger (40-44) riders in a friendly laid-back race order. His riding has improved thanks to his fellow club riders pushing him all the way back at the Castle Hill clubbies!
All our club riders and families should put this one on next year’s calendar as a great fun event after the pressure of the October 2009 NSW State titles is over. Wobbly reckons it’s the best fun ever !
Wobbly Wheel’s race report
The Surfside Classic on Sunday the 10th August 2008.
Hi everyone, it’s Wobbly here. I checked out the racing at a chilly, sunny, windy and then rainy Terrigal track to see how our riders were doing.
This is how it went :
Well they say that the 7 year old Sprockets only ride “4 Fun” – but you tell them that they’re not racing ! Jarrod Davis got the whole Castle Hill crew up and cheering and he just got better as the day went on.
In the 8 YR BOYS event Andrew House paced himself well all day to win the last race, only to be beaten on points by a local Terrigal club rider. On a little bit bigger bike, he improved his starts and muscled up as only Andrew “Mighty Mouse” House can, rubbing elbows and bars with his rivals into the first corner. That Chook magic is working !
Big brother Adam House picked up the pace in the 12 YR BOYS and had some good placings over the day to finish 6th. He showed some good turns of speed in parts of the track and just needs to put it all together on the GT from the start to the finish !
In the 16 YR BOYS Lawrence Belfield was chasing the local boys, rode well and kept them honest all day finishing 5th on a fast and challenging track.
Little brother Bradley Belfield worked hard all day in the 13 YR BOYS for a 5th in a hot heat that had the World number 3 up front being pushed all the way by Aidan Vahtrik (who trains with our Club coach Chook).
(Andrew “Chook” Chetcuti also coaches Aidan’s sister Abbey (who rode well for a 3rd in the 9 -11 girls class) & in turn, Abby helps our Courtney Randell of Princess Racing out).
Mitchell Solomons chased the 3 local riders in a small field of the 14 yr Boys and finished 3rd - getting better each time he went out on the track.
In the 40-44 CRUISER Simon Belfield, as always, put in some strong rides against some former Pro riders. With team manager mum Shari at the helm, the Belfield family always does our club proud!
Finally, the action is supposed to happen on the track, but for 45+ CRUISER Dave Solomons it began in the carpark on the way to practice !
A “Senior Moment” perhaps, but a lapse in concentration (not looking where he was going) meant that he came off second best when he took on a speedbump and the asphalt. A sore shoulder and knee (lucky he had his helmet on!) meant that he struggled against the local dads for a 5th. He tells me that he is undergoing the PACK treatment – that’s an icepack, a heatpack & a 6 pack !
Thanks to all the mums & dads who helped out on the day too !
Till next time at the Blue Mountains event – get your backside trackside.
Wobbly.
